Claim:
The Indian National Congress shared recent videos and images showing severe overcrowding and poor conditions on Bihar-bound trains, alleging Railway mismanagement and government neglect.
Fact:
The Ministry of Railways has officially debunked these claims, confirming that the videos circulated by Congress were old and misleading.
What Factcheck India Found?
To counter the growing spread of fake or AI-generated videos targeting the Indian Railways, the Ministry of Railways on October 22, 2025, launched its official fact-check handle on X (@IRFactCheck).
The new handle is designed to combat misinformation and correct false narratives circulating online about the Indian Railways. The ministry encouraged users to tag @IRFactCheck if they come across misleading or outdated railway-related content. The Railways stated that the visuals were not recent and did not represent the current travel conditions or crowd management efforts.
In its first major intervention, the handle flagged multiple posts by the Congress party’s official X handle, which used old visuals to depict overcrowded Bihar-bound trains.
The Railway Fact-Check handle clarified:
“Please do not confuse railway passengers by sharing old footage.”
The ministry also responded to another Congress post mocking the announcement of 12,000 special trains. The ministry attached an official list of the trains, confirming that the post was misleading and not based on current data.
Another viral image showing a man sleeping inside a train toilet was also dismissed by the Railways, who stated:
“This post is misleading. Avoid circulating outdated or distorted information that misrepresents the ongoing efforts of Indian Railways.”
The ministry added that such misinformation maligns the reputation of over 12 lakh railway employees who work tirelessly to serve passengers across the country.
What Are The Official Statements?
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has recently warned of strict action against individuals or groups spreading fake content targeting Indian Railways. Following several viral posts, the minister inspected crowd management at Anand Vihar railway station (Delhi) and appealed to citizens to verify content before sharing.
Earlier, another viral post claimed that two passengers died on the Mumbai–Bihar Karmbhoomi Express due to overcrowding. The Central Railway labeled this report fake, confirming that no such incident occurred.
Verdict:
False. The videos and images shared by Congress are old and misleading. The Indian Railways’ official fact-check handle @IRFactCheck has confirmed that the visuals do not reflect the current situation.
