A still from Samay Raina’s 2023 event, misrepresented as his apology for the India’s Got Latent controversy

Claim:

A video circulating on social media claims to show comedian Samay Raina apologizing for the controversy surrounding his show India’s Got Latent. The clip features him using abusive language, allegedly as part of his apology.

Fact:

This claim is false. The viral video dates back to 2023 and is not related to the India’s Got Latent controversy.

Our Investigation

Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent recently stirred controversy after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an objectionable comment during an episode. Following public outrage, Raina apologized and removed all related videos from YouTube on February 12, 2025.

After his apology, a viral video surfaced on social media, claiming to show Raina apologizing in a disrespectful manner. The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user Piyush Raval on February 11, 2025, with the caption:

“Samay Raina issues apology video after ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy.”

However, FactCheck India found that this video is from 2023 and has no connection to the controversy.

What We Found

🔍 Step 1: Reverse Image Search
A Google Lens search of the viral video’s screenshots led us to a full version of the clip uploaded on YouTube by the channel KSHMR on November 2, 2023.

📌 Video Details:

The video was recorded during the Karam album launch party in 2023.
At the 10-minute mark, Samay Raina is heard making the same statement as in the viral clip.
This exact clip was used in memes throughout 2023-24.

🔍 Step 2: Verifying Raina’s Apology

Raina did apologize on February 12, 2025, via an X post stating:“Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
However, this apology was in text form, and not a video as claimed.
