A viral social media post claims that ‘Pathaan 2’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, has been unofficially announced. This article by Fact Check India investigates the authenticity of this claim and reveals the truth.
What’s Being Shared?
Recently, a viral image captioned “Finally, ‘Pathaan 2’ has been unofficially announced. Deepika and Shah Rukh’s pair is back, Kabir is alive” has circulated across social media platforms. The accompanying image features a poster that reads “Pathaan 2.”
Our Investigation
Fact Check India examined the origins of this viral claim. A comprehensive search on social media led to a post by Siddharth R Kannan on the platform X (formerly Twitter), dated July 1, 2021. The viral image bore a watermark associated with Kannan’s account (@SRKanatic), leading us to previous posts with the same mark.
The investigation traced the earliest appearance of this particular “Pathaan” poster to April 8, 2021, in Kannan’s account. Importantly, the original poster featured only the title “Pathaan,” with no references to a sequel or “Pathaan 2.” This indicates that the viral image was modified and circulated to create a misleading impression.
Findings of the Fact Check
Fact Check India’s analysis confirms that the claim about an unofficial announcement of ‘Pathaan 2’ is false. The image currently making rounds on social media was created long ago and repurposed with altered information to appear as a new announcement. This misinformation has been crafted to garner attention but holds no truth.
Conclusion
Be wary of viral social media claims without verified sources. The viral poster claiming an unofficial announcement of ‘Pathaan 2’ is fabricated, and no such declaration has been made by the filmmakers or cast members.
Stay informed and always rely on credible sources for updates about your favorite films and news. Fact Check India continues to bring you accurate and verified information.
