Edited viral image of Sheikh Hasina following Hindu customs, originally featuring Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Yatra at Shivagiri Mutt in 2022The viral image claiming to show Sheikh Hasina following Hindu customs is edited. The original image features Rahul Gandhi during a visit to Shivagiri Mutt in 2022

Claim:

Sheikh Hasina is seen following Hindu customs in a viral image, allegedly showcasing her pro-Hindu leanings.

Verdict:

False – The viral image is edited. The original picture features Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The Claim:

A viral image circulating on social media claims to show Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, participating in Hindu rituals. This image has been widely shared to suggest her pro-Hindu stance. The context alleges that Hasina, now reportedly in hiding following her resignation amidst protests, is adopting Hindu customs.

Fact-Check Analysis:

A thorough investigation reveals that this image is not authentic and has been digitally altered.

  1. Reverse Image Search:
A reverse image search of the viral photo traced its origin to a report published by ABP Live on September 14, 2022. The original photo does not feature Sheikh Hasina but Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
  1. Original Context:
The photo of Rahul Gandhi was taken during his visit to the Shivagiri Mutt in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022. During the visit, Gandhi paid homage to saint Sri Narayana Guru and received blessings from Hindu monks.
  2. Comparison of Images:
The viral image was compared with Rahul Gandhi’s original photo from the event. The two images are identical except for the face, which has been replaced with that of Sheikh Hasina in the manipulated version.
  3. Additional Evidence:
    • The same image featuring Rahul Gandhi was shared on Congress’s official social media handle on September 14, 2022.
    • The Times of India also published the original image, further corroborating the claim’s falsehood.

Context:

Sheikh Hasina recently stepped down as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh after widespread protests. Her political status and recent controversies have made her a target for misinformation. The altered image is part of a broader trend of using fake visuals to fuel narratives about political figures.

Conclusion:

The viral image claiming to show Sheikh Hasina following Hindu customs is edited. The original photo features Congress leader Rahul Gandhi receiving blessings at the Shivagiri Mutt during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022.

Verdict: False – The image is altered.
