A video of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is going viral on social media, with users claiming that he criticized the controversial remarks made on India’s Got Latent. The video is being presented as a recent statement by Khan, suggesting that he spoke against Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments on the show.
However, FactCheck India found that this claim is misleading. The video is from 2015, where Aamir Khan was actually talking about the AIB Knockout Show during the Youth for Governance 2015 event. It has no connection to the ongoing controversy.
OUR PROBE
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a YouTube upload by Movie Talkies, dated February 11, 2015. In the video, Aamir Khan is seen discussing the AIB Knockout Show, not India’s Got Latent.
Further investigation brought up a NDTV report from the same date, where Khan stated that he had not watched the entire roast but had seen some clips. He criticized the show for its use of abusive language, calling it “violent” and “in poor taste”.
A Dainik Jagran report from July 1, 2021, also confirmed that Khan had condemned the AIB Knockout in 2015. The report mentioned that he had personally expressed his disappointment to Karan Johar and Arjun Kapoor, saying, “I am not impressed by all this.”
Additionally, we examined the social media account that first spread the misleading claim. The user primarily shares entertainment-related posts, indicating a possible motive for virality rather than authenticity.
CONCLUSION
Aamir Khan did not comment on India’s Got Latent. The viral video is from 2015 and refers to the AIB Knockout Show. The claim linking it to the current controversy is false and misleading.
