A video making the rounds on social media shows the police arresting people, seemingly from a residential area. Our Fact Check found this video has no links to the ongoing controversy. It is from 2023 and shows the police detaining two men over a parking dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida.

Claim:

A viral video claims to show the arrest of Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina after their controversial joke on India’s Got Latent.

Fact:

The video is unrelated to the India’s Got Latent controversy. It is from August 2023 and shows police arresting two men in Greater Noida after a parking dispute.

Analysis:

A video circulating on social media allegedly shows the police arresting Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina from their homes. In the clip, a crowd gathers as the police take two men into custody, with heated arguments in the background. The claim suggests that this arrest is linked to the controversy surrounding the India’s Got Latent show.

Our Investigation:

Upon conducting a reverse image search, we traced the video to a Times of India report from August 15, 2023. According to the report, the video was taken at Flora Heritage housing society in Greater Noida West. The incident occurred on August 13, 2023, when a clash broke out over parking issues.

  • Police Intervention: The fight escalated, and residents reportedly attacked police officers when they arrived.
  • Arrests: Two individuals, identified as Daya Shankar and Hriday Shankar, were taken into custody for obstructing law enforcement.
  • Official Confirmation: The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police posted about the incident on X (formerly Twitter) on August 14, 2023.

Ranveer Allahbadia’s Legal Status

While Ranveer Allahbadia faces legal scrutiny due to his remarks on India’s Got Latent, the Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest on February 18. However, the court restrained him from participating in any further shows while the investigation is ongoing.

Verdict:

🚨 FALSE – The video does not show the arrest of Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina. It is a 2023 incident from Greater Noida, falsely linked to the India’s Got Latent controversy.
