Claim: A video shows Indian and Bangladeshi cricket players engaging in an on-field altercation during the 2025 Champions Trophy match on February 20.

Fact: The viral video is actually from the 2020 Under-19 World Cup final, not the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Investigation:

A video circulating online claims to show a heated confrontation between Indian and Bangladeshi cricketers during their 2025 Champions Trophy match. However, a fact-check revealed that the clip is old and unrelated to the ongoing tournament.

Using keyword searches, multiple news reports from 2020 were found, confirming that the video is from the Under-19 World Cup Final held in Potchefstroom, South Africa, on February 9, 2020. Reports from The Times of India, Hindustan Times, and The Quint detailed how players from both teams engaged in an aggressive confrontation after Bangladesh’s victory.

During the match, Bangladeshi players were accused of excessive sledging, and tensions escalated post-match. The ICC had penalized two Indian and three Bangladeshi players for their involvement in the scuffle, and Bangladesh’s captain, Akbar Ali, later apologized for the incident.

Conclusion:

A five-year-old video from the 2020 Under-19 World Cup final has been falsely shared as footage from the 2025 Champions Trophy. The claim is misleading.
