The controversy comes just days after Afridi sparked outrage in India for his inflammatory.

Claim: A viral video claims that former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has passed away and was buried in Karachi.
Fact: False. Shahid Afridi is alive and in good health. The video circulating online is AI-generated and entirely fake.

What Happened?

In a shocking burst of digital deception, social media exploded on June 7 with a video that appeared to announce the death of Shahid Afridi, one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricketers. The clip mimicked a legitimate news broadcast, complete with an ambulance backdrop, a solemn anchor, and fabricated international cricket tributes. It didn’t take long for hashtags like #RIPAfridi to trend, prompting confusion and concern among fans.

But here’s the truth: The video is fake. 100% fake.

What’s the Truth?

Fact-checkers and digital media experts quickly dismantled the video’s credibility. A forensic analysis revealed that the news anchor’s speech and facial movements were AI-generated, part of a rising wave of synthetic misinformation. The video had no attribution to any real news channel and was designed to mimic authenticity and authority.

Let’s be clear:
Shahid Afridi is alive
No official Pakistani news outlet has reported his death
The funeral and condolence claims are completely fabricated

This is not just a rumor. It’s AI-manipulated disinformation.

Why It Matters: The Rise of AI-Generated Fake News

This incident is another grim reminder of how Artificial Intelligence can be weaponized to spread fake news. The speed and realism of such deepfakes make them incredibly dangerous. Especially when public figures are targeted. With AI tools now capable of cloning voices, generating realistic video, and fabricating news formats, public trust is on the line. The India-Pakistan Context

This viral video surfaced soon after tensions escalated between India and Pakistan, particularly in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In response to provocative content from across the border, the Indian government banned several Pakistani social media accounts, including Afridi’s, due to repeated violations and inflammatory remarks against India.

Afridi, known for his controversial political statements, has long remained a polarizing figure outside the cricketing field.

Afridi’s Legacy: A Cricketing Titan

Let’s not forget Shahid Afridi’s real legacy—the one etched on cricket fields around the world:

27 Tests: 1,716 runs | 48 wickets
398 ODIs: 8,064 runs | 395 wickets
99 T20Is: 1,416 runs | 98 wickets
2009 T20 World Cup Champion: A key figure in Pakistan’s win

He retired from international cricket in 2017 but remains an influential voice in Pakistan’s sports and political circles.

Final Verdict

❌ Claim	Shahid Afridi has died and was buried in Karachi
✅ Fact	False. Afridi is alive. The video is AI-generated and misleading.

Bottom Line: Don’t Fall for AI Fakery

In the age of AI, misinformation travels at the speed of light. The viral video claiming Shahid Afridi’s death is not only false. It’s a disturbing example of how quickly AI can manipulate truth. Always verify before you amplify.
