Claim: A viral video showing passengers sweating and fanning themselves inside an aircraft is being shared online with the claim that it was filmed moments before the deadly Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
Verdict: False – The video is unrelated to the crash and dates back to August 2024. It was filmed on an entirely different flight.
As news of the tragic crash of a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad spread, misinformation followed swiftly on social media. One viral video, viewed over 400,000 times, shows visibly distressed passengers on a sweltering flight without air conditioning. Some users claimed the footage was captured just before the June 12 crash, in which at least 279 people died — including 24 on the ground.
But the video is not recent — and not related to the incident.
What the viral video actually shows
Importantly, he clearly identifies the airline as Air India Express, a low-cost subsidiary of Air India, which operates separately.
Additionally, the Air India Express logo is visible in the clip, further proving it is not from the full-service Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad.
Misinformation spreads fast
This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly old, unrelated content can be misused during high-profile news events, fueling panic and confusion. Several users on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) shared the clip with Hindi captions reading: “Just before the crash”, misleading thousands.
The truth matters
Factcheck India, have already debunked multiple misleading claims surrounding the Ahmedabad crash. This is yet another example of the importance of verifying sources and cross-checking visual evidence before sharing content online.
Conclusion:
The viral video of passengers struggling without air conditioning was filmed in August 2024 on a Dubai-bound Air India Express flight. It has no connection to the tragic Air India Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad in June 2025.
