Fact Check: Viral Video of Quran Surviving Fire Is NOT Linked to Ahmedabad Plane Crash

Claim:
A video showing a copy of the Quran miraculously surviving a massive fire is being shared online with the claim that it was found in the wreckage of the Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.

Verdict:
False. The video predates the Ahmedabad crash and is unrelated to it.

What Is the Claim?

A viral video circulating on social media, especially on Instagram, shows a visibly burnt room with a relatively untouched Quran. The post claims this miraculous survival took place during the tragic AI-171 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. The video has sparked emotional reactions and been used to push religious narratives.

Investigation

1. No Media Reports or Evidence
No credible media sources, including ANI, PTI, or national news outlets, have reported that a Quran was recovered from the AI-171 crash site. In contrast, multiple reliable outlets have reported that a copy of the Bhagavad Gita was found intact in the debris.

2. Reverse Image Search
Keyframes from the viral video were traced back to a Facebook post by Iraqi news outlet “Kirkuk Official News” dated March 8, 2025. The same video was also found on a Thai Facebook page on May 14, 2025, both well before the June 12 plane crash.

3. No Aircraft in the Footage
The setting in the video appears to be a residential or small indoor space, not aircraft debris. Burnt furniture, walls, and ceiling textures suggest this is a room, not the aftermath of an aviation disaster.

4. Expert Confirmation
Shatrughan Sharma, Gujarat-based senior correspondent for Dainik Jagran, confirmed to Vishvas News that the viral video is not from the Ahmedabad crash and that the video seems to be from a building fire, not a passenger aircraft.

Social Media Context

The viral video was posted on Instagram by the user @kadir.maz on June 13, 2025, a day after the crash. The account has over 9,000 followers. Despite the misleading caption, the video had already been circulating for over three months on various platforms.

Conclusion

The claim is false.
The viral video of a Quran surviving a fire has no connection to the June 12, 2025, Ahmedabad plane crash. The video has been online since March 2025 and appears to show the aftermath of a domestic fire and not an aviation disaster.
