Claim: A website is inviting applications for the “International Sports Awards 2025” and “Indian Sports Awards 2025,” allegedly endorsed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Verdict: False. The Government has confirmed that the website is fake and not affiliated with any official sports awards initiative.
What’s the Claim?
A website, indiansportsaward.org, is circulating widely on social media claiming that applications are open for two major events and the International Sports Awards 2025 and the Indian Sports Awards 2025. It even lists the event venue as Taj Palace Hotel, Mumbai and mentions Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, as a presenter. The site uses the Government of India’s emblem and falsely claims endorsement by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
To make the claim more convincing, the website showcases a promotional poster including actors Surendra Pal and Raza Murad as event guests, adding to its perceived legitimacy.
What Did the Government Say?
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-checked the viral invitation and declared the website fraudulent. PIB confirmed that:
- Neither the “International Sports Awards 2025” nor the “Indian Sports Awards 2025” are organized or endorsed by the Government of India.
- The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is not connected to these events in any form.
- The use of the Government’s emblem and ministry name in this context is unauthorized and misleading.
Official Advisory:
The Government has urged the public:
- To not fall for such fake invitations.
- To verify such claims via official government portals before submitting personal details or applications.
- To report suspicious websites or content to cybercrime authorities.
Conclusion:
The viral website indiansportsaward.org falsely claims government backing for fake sports awards in 2025. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has no association with these events. Citizens are strongly advised to exercise caution and rely only on official government sources for any award-related information.
