Fact Check: Was a joint India–Israel defence facility in Delhi attacked amid the Iran war?

Claim: Viral social media posts claim that a massive fire broke out at a joint India–Israel defence facility in Delhi, killing several workers from both countries. The posts also allege that Indian media blamed supporters of Iran in India for the incident.

Fact Check: False — The Government of India has confirmed that the viral claim about an attack and fire at a joint India–Israel facility in Delhi is fake.

What’s the story?

Amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia, a claim began circulating on social media platforms suggesting that a joint India–Israel defence facility in Delhi had been attacked, leading to a massive fire and the deaths of several workers.

One viral post alleged:

“A massive fire broke out in a joint India-Israel defense facility in Delhi, resulting in the deaths of several workers from both countries. The Indian media is blaming supporters of Iran in India.”

The claim spread widely online, especially as global tensions escalated following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, triggering widespread misinformation and speculation across social media. However, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) quickly intervened to address the viral posts. The ministry’s official fact-check handle issued a “Fake News Alert” on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“This is Fake News. Please stay alert against such false and baseless claims on social media!”

The MEA clarified that no such attack or fire incident had occurred at any India–Israel defence facility in Delhi.

What Factcheck India Found?

The viral claim appears to be part of a broader wave of misinformation spreading online amid the heightened geopolitical tensions surrounding the Iran conflict. Conflicts often trigger a surge of unverified claims, manipulated narratives, and fabricated incidents on social media. In this case, there is no official confirmation, credible report, or evidence supporting the claim of an attack on an India–Israel defence facility in Delhi. The MEA’s prompt clarification indicates that the viral posts are baseless and likely designed to create panic or fuel geopolitical narratives during a sensitive international situation.

Conclusion

There is no evidence that a joint India–Israel defence facility in Delhi was attacked or caught fire. The Government of India has clearly labelled the viral claim as fake news, urging citizens to rely only on verified sources and remain cautious about misinformation circulating online.
