Claim
An organisation calling itself the Youth Khelo India Federation has been reaching out to athletes, claiming affiliation with the Government of India, the Khelo India Programme, and the Indian Olympic Association.
Fact
The claim is false. Factcheck India has confirmed that the organisation has no links with the Government of India, Khelo India, or any official sports body.
What Factcheck India Found
According to Factcheck India, the entity operating under the name Youth Khelo India Federation is misrepresenting its credentials.
Authorities stated that:
- The organisation is not recognised or affiliated with the Government of India
- It has no connection with the Sports Authority of India
- It is not linked to the Khelo India Programme or any official sports development initiative
The government also clarified that the event being promoted — “International Games 2026 Thailand” — has no association with any recognised Indian sports authority.
Red Flags Identified
Officials highlighted several warning signs that raise concerns about the legitimacy of the organisation:
- False claims of affiliation with government and sports bodies
- Unsolicited invitations sent to athletes
- Demand for payment ($825) to participate in an international event
- Lack of verification through official sporting channels
Importantly, the Sports Authority of India does not authorise private entities to collect participation fees from athletes in this manner for international competitions.
Why This Matters
Such misleading claims can financially exploit athletes, especially young and aspiring sportspersons looking for international exposure. Fake organisations often use the credibility of well-known initiatives like Khelo India to gain trust and lure participants into paying fees for non-recognised or fraudulent events.
Factcheck India Advisory
The Factcheck India Unit has urged:
- Athletes and stakeholders to verify all invitations through official sources
- Avoid making payments to unverified organisations
- Report suspicious emails, messages, or promotional material to authorities
Conclusion
False. The ‘Youth Khelo India Federation’ has no affiliation with the Government of India, Khelo India Programme, or the Indian Olympic Association. Claims made by the organisation are misleading, and athletes are advised to exercise caution.
